TO BE SAFE AROUND DOGS

Don't approach a dog you don't know
-
Don't
approach a dog that is tied up
-
Don't
scream and run away from a dog
-
Don't
play with a dog, even one you know, unless an adult is with you
-
Don't
approach a dog that is sleeping, eating, drinking or taking care of
Puppies
-
If
a strange dog comes up to you, be still, like a tree Freeze -
hands cross your heart

If
the dog knocks you over, roll into a ball and be still, like a
possum

I have trained dogs for over 15 years
in The Bay of Plenty and am now fulltime.
I am
offering a programme for preschools to teach
children how to be safe around
dogs. They will learn the best way to
approach a dog, the hand sniff, stand still like a
tree and the possum ball to help them if they are
pushed over by a dog. I will bring my own two dogs,
‘Keisha’ the German Sheppard and ‘Lucy’ a miniature
foxy for children to practice with. They are both
safe dogs for children to be around. Recently we
have completed this programme at the ABC Monokai in
Rotorua please contact Petta Harriman if you wish to
